Good news is rare these days, and every glittering ounce of it should be cherished and hoarded and worshipped and fondled like a priceless diamond.

Let me start by saying that if you have read everything that is posted here… you are overdue for a bit of good news. So I will jump right in.
We submitted tissue in August for a test called the Foundation One Comprehensive Genomic Profile. It tests the genes of the tumor for mutations. The hope in doing this was to learn more about my specific tumor and how it might be treated. They test around 300 genes and send a report back with detailed breakdown of what is actually causing the tumor.
Last week we got an exciting call that our test was complete and upon review it was found that my tumor has what is called an HER2 amplification.
What does that mean?? We are still trying to learn what that means – but in short, that means that they have a targeted therapy drug that is designed to specifically target that mutation and that this drug has been FDA approved.
What does that mean?? That means that this drug has been proven effective for a majority of people, is covered by insurance, and it is available immediately.
So, what does that mean?? That means we have a powerful new weapon in our arsenal to fight and kill this beast.
We go in this week to meet with the doctor and talk about next steps…
